Kevin Hart Will Host 2019 Oscars Ceremony

Actor and funnyman Kevin Hart will emcee the 91st annual Academy Awards. The 39-year-old, who will lead the Oscars for the first time in his career on February 24, 2019, broke the announcement on Instagram on Tuesday (December 4).

"For years I have been asked if I would ever Host the Oscars and my answer was always the same...I said that it would be the opportunity of a lifetime for me as a comedian and that it will happen when it’s suppose [sic] to," Hart writes in the post. "I am so happy to say that the day has finally come for me to host the Oscars. I am blown away simply because this has been a goal on my list for a long time....To be able to join the legendary list of host that have graced that stage is unbelievable."

He added: "I know my mom is smiling from ear to ear right now. I want to thank my family/friends/fans for supporting me & riding with me all this time....I will be sure to make this years Oscars a special one."

Following Jimmy Kimmel's two-year stint as the master of ceremonies, the Night School star becomes the fifth Black entertainer to host the Oscars after Chris Rock, Richard Pryor, Diana Ross, and Whoopi Goldberg.

Hart has previously hosted the BET Awards (2011), MTV Video Music Awards (2012) and the MTV Movie Awards (2016). In 2012, the Jumanji 3 performer spoke of wanting to fulfill his dream of hosting the Oscars to The New York Times.

The Academy Awards will air from the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood, Los Angeles, California on ABC.

Congrats, Kevin!
