Kate Middleton And Prince William's Convoy Hits 83-Year-Old Woman

Royal Ascot 2019 - Day One

An elderly woman was seriously injured after being struck by a motorcycle in Kate Middleton and Prince William's police caravan on Monday (June 18).

According to the Daily Mail, one of the motorcycles riding alongside William and Kate's Range Rover hit an 83-year-old pedestrian named Irene Mayor. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were on their way to the Garter Day ceremony in Windsor.

The police officer riding the motorcycle was clearing traffic in front of the couple’s motorcade when the accident occurred. Witnesses at the scene report the officer was driving on the wrong side of the road when Mayor stepped out.

“His bike hit her and she spun round, off her feet and fell badly on the floor,” a witness told The Sun. “The officer was devastated. But he was going on the wrong side of the road. It could have been so much worse.”

Mayor is currently being treated at a London hospital for serious injuries. She's in stable condition. William and Kate released a statement addressing the accident. "The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were deeply concerned and saddened to hear about the accident on Monday afternoon," the statement reads. "Their Royal Highnesses have sent their very best wishes to Irene and her family and will stay in touch throughout every stage of her recovery."

Some royal reporters speculate the Duke and Duchess will visit Mayor in the hospital, as well.
