Daniel Jones Has 'Zeroed' In On Choice For Next Team: Report

Free agent quarterback Daniel Jones has reportedly "zeroed" in on his next NFL team, according to senior NFL insider Josina Anderson.

"A high-ranking league official told me they have the impression QB Daniel Jones has zereod on a 'leading' choice," Anderson wrote on her X account Tuesday (November 26). "While another high-ranking league source told me their understanding is Jones 'is telling teams tomorrow.'

Anderson "separately" added that the Las Vegas Raiders were particularly "interested" following quarterback Gardner Minshew's season-ending injury. The Raiders were previously reported to have emerged as a "more interesting" suitor for Jones following Minshew's injury on Sunday (November 24), NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported.

Jones cleared waivers on Monday (November 25) and was reported to have received interest from the Raiders, San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens. The Raiders would be the most intriguing landing spot with an opportunity to potentially take over as starting quarterback.

Niners quarterback Brock Purdy was ruled out of Sunday's loss to the Green Bay Packers, but his status moving forward has not yet been determined. Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson is a favorite to win his second consecutive NFL MVP, which would be the third of his career.

The Giants granted Jones' release request after the former first-round pick was demoted to fourth-string quarterback behind Tommy DeVito, backup Drew Lock and practice-squad addition Tim Boyle last week.

"Daniel came to see me this morning and asked if we would release him," said Giants president John Mara last Friday (November 22). "We mutually agreed that would be best for him and for the team.

"Daniel has been a great representative of our organization, first class in every way. His handling of this situation yesterday exemplifies just that. We are all disappointed in how things have worked out.

"We hold Daniel in high regard and have a great appreciation for him. We wish hm nothing but the best in the future."

Jones, went 2-8 as a starter in 2024, throwing for 2,070 yards, eight touchdowns and seven interceptions on 216 of 341 passing and has a career record of 24-44-1 in 69 starts. The former Duke University standout was selected by the Giants at No. 6 overall in the 2019 NFL Draft and rewarded with a four-year, $160 million extension in 2023 after a career season and playoff victory.

Jones was limited to just six appearances in 2023 and has struggled when healthy, while the team's investment in him ultimately hindered its chances of re-signing running back Saquon Barkley, who instead signed with the NFC East Division rival Philadelphia Eagles and is on pace to have the best season of his career. DeVito went 3-3 in six starts, throwing for 1,101 yards, eight touchdowns and three interceptions on 114 of 178 passing during his rookie season in 2023.
