"You Can't Get Anything For Free From Me"

In a recent Strawberry Letter, a young woman writes in sharing a testimony of being a "lady of the night." She admits that she used to lend out her body in exchange for money, but now is a changed woman that can take care of her herself. While many things have changed, her mindset has not. She still feels that a man should spend money on her if she is "laying it down."

Dear Steve and Shirley,

I used to be a "working girl," but I have been out of the game for 5 years. Since I made this big lifestyle change, I have only dated one man and he knew about my past and was willing and able to take care of me. Now that I’m back on the dating scene, it's been hard for me to transition to another good man. Dating is soooo different now. In the past, I sold my body because I needed the money to pay a couple of bills, go out for nice dinners and get whatever else my heart desired. Now, through the grace of God, I can pay for anything I need myself. But, I still want a man that is going to spend money on me if I’m intimate with him. Is it wrong for me to think like this? Nothing is free, so if he’s laying with me, shouldn’t he pay?

Now this letter can be viewed in two ways (I suppose.) The first being the obvious that she feels a man should pay to have sex with her, but how about looking at it from the point of view that she wants to be wined and dined? You've heard the saying, "why buy a cow if you can get the milk for free!?"

They say you have teach a man how to treat you. Is there anything wrong with her wanting to be compensated for her worth?
