NEW MUSIC: John Legend Says, 'Actions Speak Louder Than Love Songs'

On Friday (4/17), multi-platinum, Grammy award-winning singer-songwriter, producer, but like Unc said, "kill all that," PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive 2019, John Legend blessed us in the studio with great music and a powerful message.

The Springfield, Ohio native stopped by to discuss his new single, "Actions" from his upcoming album, how he's helping to raise money for the World Health Organization during the COVID-19 pandemic and so much more.

Kicking off the convo in straight, "Steve Harvey fashion," Unc poked fun at John about his coveted accolade from People Magazine. While not coming from a place of malice, Unc assured John that "dudes [are going] to hate" because their "job is to wonder why it ain't us." Now if there's anyone on the show who thinks they're sexy, it's Nephew Tommy. And without shame, this fool admits he's "confident with his sexy" and that "if John [is] number 1, [he's] 3rd or 4th" and he's cool with that.

Moving right along, John talks his time in quarantine with his 4-year-old daughter, Luna, who recently celebrated her birthday on April 14th and his soon-to-be 2-year-old son Myles (5/16) who are "so happy" to be spending time with him and his wife, Chrissy Teigen because they get to hang out with them "all the time." However, John's no fool and admits "when they're older they'll probably annoyed with us, tired of us, don't think [they're] cool," but at least right now "they think [they're] the coolest thing."

On to the new music...

Legend reveals he teamed up Warren โ€œOakโ€Felder to produce his latest track, "Actions" sampling "The Edge" By David McCallum, which if you listen to very closes, at the very beginning, you'll hear remnants of Dr. Dre's and Snoop Dogg's hit track, The Next Episode. It's here where Legend & Felder "flipped it and made it an R&B song." With a chorus belting an undeniable truth that "actions speak louder than love songs," John is quick to admit that he "can talk a good game, [he] can write a romantic song," but if he's "not backing it up with action, it doesn't mean anything."

Take a listen:

Now ain't that the truth! That's a good song!

And you know what else is good? John's never ending efforts to provoke social change. We've seen him at The White House, promoting mental health awareness, advocating for prison reform, and just overall a socially conscious man. Adding another good deed under his belt, he's teaming up with the World Health Organization on Saturday, April 18th to do a concert called Global Citizen One World: Together At Home concert that will air on ABC, NBC and CBS featuring artists, curated by Lady Gaga, from all over the world in an effort to raise awareness, monies and also serve as a source of encouragement for frontline healthcare workers and the WHO due to COVID-19.
