The Strawberry Letter: Why Can't He Cut Her Loose

Subject: Why can’t he cut her loose?

Dear Steve and Shirley, I’m a 48 year old single woman and I’ve raised a handsome and productive young man with the help of my ex-husband. My ex-husband was a very hands-on dad, but we did not see eye-to-eye in our marriage. His father always spoiled him, but lately his dad has been busy with a new woman and now he’s become distant from our son. If I call his dad, it takes him days to call me back. My son told me who his dad is dating now and she’s nothing but trouble. She’s married to an older man and she’s got control of the money, but she lusts after other men because she’s not satisfied sexually. So now she’s got her claws in my ex and he can’t think straight. She has a bad reputation for messing around on her husband but these men don’t seem to mind. I mind a lot, because my ex and I have a sexual relationship and he's cut me off because of her. He and I can go weeks without a word, but as soon as we see each other, it’s clothes off and we’re in the bed together. It is what it is, and after 20 years, we still can’t keep our hands off of each other. I know that he sees other women but I don’t have time to date, so he meets my sexual needs. What this woman has done, has messed up my good thing and I want to know why he can’t cut her loose. I got him on the phone recently and I told him I need a ‘tune up’ and he told me he’d see what he could do. If I told him that a month ago, he’d be at my house or I’d be at his, within an hour or so. He’s never put me off, so why is he picking someone who’s been passed around, over something he’s been getting for 20 years? Why can’t he cut this woman loose?
