Gladys Knight is speaking out after her son, Shanga Hankerson, made claims about her husband, William McDowell. According to the Black Information Network, Hankerson accused McDowell of mentally and financially abusing the singer.
Knight, however, has firmly denied the allegations. In a statement released on August 15, the 81-year-old music icon said, “I’m sorry that my health and performances have been misrepresented. I want my fans and those concerned to rest assured I am doing very well for someone who has been on stage for three quarters of a century, hard to believe, right?”
She reassured her supporters by sharing her excitement about upcoming performances. “I’m excited to get back on the road with my sisters and on stage with The Queens Tour. See you soon.”
