A recent study by the Institute for Family Studies (IFS) has revealed a concerning trend nationwide. The number of Americans having sex weekly has dropped to historic lows. The data shows that only 37 percent of adults between the ages of 18 and 64 report having sex weekly.
The study surveyed 1,000 adults and highlights what some experts are calling a sex recession. This drop in intimacy is not just about personal preferences. Experts believe that increased technology usage may be to blame. Smartphones, tablets, and even laptops are now common companions at bedtime, and the result may be a significant decline in physical intimacy.
Relationship therapists note that many couples engage in “bedtime procrastination,” where they delay going to sleep by scrolling on their phones or streaming content, leaving less time and desire for connection with their partners.
While many factors influence sexual behavior, the digital age seems to be playing a larger role than previously understood. The question is, are our screens becoming more important than our partners?
