Illinois and Chicago Sue Trump Over National Guard Deployment

Tensions are rising as Illinois and the city of Chicago have filed a federal lawsuit against the Trump administration. The suit challenges the deployment of National Guard troops to the state, arguing that it threatens citizens' safety and undermines local leadership.

Illinois Attorney General Kwame Raoul wrote in the complaint, “The American people should not live under the threat of occupation by the United States military, particularly not simply because their city or state leadership has fallen out of a president’s favor.”

Community leaders, residents, and protestors are voicing concerns that the military presence could spark unrest, hurt tourism, and damage the local economy. The lawsuit reflects a growing resistance to federal overreach, especially when cities believe political retaliation is the motive.
