Federal Judge Dismisses Cases Against James Comey and Letitia James

A federal judge has dismissed the criminal indictments against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James. According to ABC News, the ruling was based on the conclusion that the U.S. attorney who issued the indictments was appointed improperly, therefore rendering the cases invalid.

The decision brings an abrupt end to a high profile legal battle with major political implications. Letitia James, who successfully prosecuted a civil fraud case against Donald Trump last year and has been a consistent challenger of his administration’s policies, pleaded not guilty in October to allegations that she committed mortgage fraud related to a home purchase in 2020.

Following the dismissal, James released a statement thanking her supporters and reaffirming her commitment to her work. She said, “I remain fearless in the face of these baseless charges as I continue fighting for New Yorkers every single day.”

As for former FBI Director James Comey, the judge’s decision clears him of charges critics viewed as politically motivated. Both officials now move forward without the cloud of these indictments overshadowing their careers.
