Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool Renovation Costs Draw Scrutiny

The iconic reflecting pool at the Lincoln Memorial is back in the spotlight, but this time it's because of renovation costs.

According to reports, President Donald Trump previously stated that repairs to the Reflecting Pool would cost approximately $1.5 million. However, newer estimates reportedly place the project cost at more than $16 million.

The renovation includes sandblasting, resurfacing, caulking, and addressing ongoing maintenance issues. In recent years, the pool has experienced algae blooms and problems with its blue protective coating peeling from the bottom.

The Reflecting Pool is one of Washington's most recognizable landmarks, attracting millions of visitors each year. Because the project is funded through the National Park Service and the U.S. Department of the Interior, taxpayers are ultimately covering the cost of repairs.

The project has sparked debate over government spending, preservation of national landmarks, and the challenges of maintaining historic public spaces.
