R. Kelly Asks President Trump to Commute His 30-Year Prison Sentence

R&B singer R. Kelly is seeking presidential clemency.

According to reports, Kelly has formally asked President Donald Trump to commute his 30-year federal prison sentence. A member of Kelly's legal team told the Chicago Tribune that the singer believes his life is in danger while incarcerated and cannot wait for the normal appeals process.

Kelly is currently serving a 30-year sentence after being convicted in 2021 on federal charges including racketeering and sex trafficking. His convictions were later upheld by the 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals after he unsuccessfully appealed the verdict.

The request now places the possibility of executive clemency in President Trump's hands, although no response has been publicly announced.
