Usher appears ready to settle one of R&B’s longest-running debates himself.
During a recent stop on his co-headlining tour with Chris Brown, Usher placed a crown on his own head while performing, appearing to make a pretty clear statement about where he believes he stands in R&B history.
The moment immediately sparked another round of the never-ending “King of R&B” debate on social media.
Usher certainly has a résumé that keeps his name in the conversation.
He has spent more than three decades in the music industry, delivering hits including “Nice & Slow,” “You Make Me Wanna…,” “U Got It Bad,” “Burn,” “Yeah!” and countless others.
His 2004 album Confessions became one of the defining R&B albums of its generation, and Usher has continued to sell out arenas and stadiums decades into his career.
He also brought his catalog to one of the biggest stages in entertainment when he headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in 2024.
Of course, Usher is not the only name fans mention when debating the unofficial R&B crown.
Depending on the generation, fans have made cases for artists ranging from R. Kelly and Bobby Brown to Chris Brown and other R&B legends.
There may never be an official answer, but Usher apparently knows who gets his vote.
