Judge Judy Sheindlin has never been afraid to tell people exactly what she thinks, and at 83 years old, she is definitely not starting now.
During a recent interview, the television courtroom icon opened up about her love for America and her views on how the country has changed.
“If you don’t like this country, go somewhere else,” Sheindlin said.
Judge Judy explained that she considers America her home and believes people should appreciate the opportunities the country provides rather than trying to completely transform what it represents.
She also said she believes many Americans are nostalgic for certain elements of the 1950s, although she was not suggesting the country should return to everything about that era.
Instead, she pointed specifically to qualities such as personal responsibility, order, respect and common decency.
Sheindlin said people seem increasingly unable to disagree without becoming hostile and pointed to racism, antisemitism, hate speech and political division as examples of how civility has broken down.
Judge Judy has spent decades making personal responsibility one of the central themes of her television career, so her comments probably will not surprise longtime viewers.
But telling unhappy Americans to simply “go somewhere else” is definitely going to start a conversation.
