Gatorade Recall Expands Across 37 States

If you have Gatorade at home, you may want to check the bottle.

PepsiCo has recalled more than 122,000 cases of Gatorade distributed across 37 states because some products contain artificial food dyes that were not listed on the labels.

The recall involves 28-ounce bottles of four varieties:

Gatorade Lemon Lime, Gatorade Lemon Lime Zero, Gatorade Orange and Gatorade Orange Zero.

According to the FDA, the affected drinks contain undeclared Yellow No. 5 and/or Yellow No. 6.

Those dyes are legal food colorings, but federal regulations require them to be disclosed on product labels.

PepsiCo originally launched the recall on September 25. The FDA later classified it as a Class II recall on October 2.

A Class II recall means exposure to the product could potentially cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences, although the chance of serious health problems is considered remote.

The recalled Gatorade was distributed in states including Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Texas, California, New York, North Carolina, South Carolina and Tennessee.

Consumers should check their bottles against the specific product and lot information included in the recall before drinking them.
