LeBron James is showing off his skills on and off the basketball court. The NBA star is set to executive produce an eight part series about America's first black, self-made millionaire, Madam CJ Walker with "the help" of actress Octavia Spencer.
Spencer is set to star as Sarah Breedlove, famously known as Madam C.J. Walker, which is based on the book “On Our Own Ground” by Walker's great-great-granddaughter, A’Lelia Bundles.
The series unveils the untold story of how hair care pioneer and mogul, Walker, overcame the harsh realities of the turn-of-the century in America. Born as a the daughter of slaves, orphaned at seven, married at 14 and widowed at 20, Walker was a real life phoenix who rose from its ashes. Working as a washerwoman for over 20 years, earning $1.50 a week, her story is nothing short of amazing.
By the time Walker died in 1919, she had built a beauty empire from the ground up, accumulating wealth that was unprecedented among black women and devoting her life to philanthropy and social activism.
