Unlike many Disney films starring a magical princesses, Sadé is "no ordinary love." The live-action fairytale is about an African Princess who uses her magical powers to defend her kingdom which is being threatened by an evil force and becomes a warrior for her people.
According to Deadline, the project is based on an original idea from Ola Shokunbi and Lindsey Reed Palmer and will be directed by Rick Famuyiwa, who previously worked on the movie "Dope.”
In case you're wondering why this project so special? Although Disney introduced Princess Tiana in 2009 as the first black princess, this film will mark the first time an African female character will lead a Disney princess film!
Ohhh-wee! There's nothing like a little "black girl magic!"
