Now y'all done got Jay-Z to tweet for the first time in over a year.
Hov returned to Twitter for the first time since 2017 to clarify that he did not take shots at his "brother" Kanye West in his new song with Meek Mill and Rick Ross "What's Free," despite reports. After Meek dropped his highly-anticipated fourth studio album, Championships, on Friday (November 30), the Internet could not get over what many initially deemed as shade thrown at Kanye and Donald Trump by Jay.
The bars in question were:
"No red hat, don’t Michael and Prince me and Ye/They separate you when you got Michael and Prince’s DNA/I ain’t one of these house n***as you bought/My house like a resort, my house bigger than yours/My spo—c’mon, man—my route better of course."
With many calling Jay's mentioning of Kanye's all-favorite red (MAGA) hat as direct shade thrown at the "I Love It" rapper, Hov took to Twitter to explain that his bars were about him acknowledging that neither Kanye's red hat nor his support of Trump has stopped him from seeing Kanye as a brother. "The line clearly meant don’t pit me against my brothers no matter what our differences are (red hat)," he explained. "Now go pick up Meek album." Jay also noted how Drake and Meek were able move past their differences enough for Drake to be featured on Championships. The legendary rapper seemingly mentioned the squashed beef to show that individuals can get along despite their differences.
As iHeartRadio previously reported, Jay asked in the song that people not pit him and Kanye against each other like they did to Michael Jackson and Prince, who had a rivalry back in the '80s and '90s (as noted by TMZ). As for as Jay's bars about not being a "house n***a" well those seem to be a jab at black people who support Trump, possibly excluding Kanye.
To note, Jay did not deny that his Trump-bashing lyrics were, in fact, Trump-bashing lyrics.
