Eddie Levert Is Not Happy With The Black Community

The legendary O'Jay's front man shared his thoughts on the craziness behind this Popeyes chicken sandwich epidemic.

Eddie Levert was in full attendance for BLACK ENTERPRISE's Black Men XCEL summit. The four-day retreat is designed to empower men of color. However, songs of praise turned into harsh criticisms when Eddie shamed people for their behavior over the crispy deliciousness of Popeyes. His BMXCEL award acceptance speech went a little something like this.

“It’s not just about me and the popularity and the records and all of that. This is about my people and that’s what I want to convey to the younger people — that this is not just about you and the bling and the cars. This is about our culture and about what we need to represent our people and how we need to represent our people.”

He went on to say showing such heavy support would more understandable if the franchise was black-owned, but that's simply not the case.

The Steve Harvey Morning Show weighed on their thoughts of Eddie's take on Popeyes-gate. Hear how Uncle Steve feels below at the 5:30 mark, but not before checking out Mr. Levert's full speech!
