Blue Ivy Carter, 8, Wins Her First BET Award With Mom BeyoncƩ

Blue Ivy Carter is now a BET Award recipient!

During Sundayā€™s (June 28) 2020 BET Awards, BeyoncĆ©ā€™s eldest daughter was awarded the BET Her Award for ā€œBrown Skin Girl,ā€ the song on which the 8-year-old lends her voice for the 2019 album, The Lion King: The Gift.

Blue Ivy ā€” who performs on the record alongside her mom, WizKID, and SAINt JHN ā€” beat out fellow category contenders Ciara, Lupita Nyongā€™o, City Girls, LaLa, and Ester Dean for ā€œMelanin,ā€ Rapsody and PJ Morton for ā€œAfeni,ā€ Layton Greene for ā€œI Choose,ā€ and Lizzo and Missy Elliott for ā€œTempo.ā€

This isnā€™t the first time Blue Ivy has taken home a trophy for her musical achievements. She made history earlier this year at the NAACP Image Awards after being presented with the honor for Outstanding Duo, Group or Collaboration for ā€œBrown Skin Girlā€ as well. She also brought home last yearā€™s Ashford & Simpson Songwritersā€™ Award at the 2019 BET Soul Train Awards.

Blue Ivy wasnā€™t the only Carter to win at this yearā€™s BET Awards. Her mommy also walked away with a high honor of her own when she was presented with the Humanitarian Award for her commitment to humanitarianism through her BeyGood campaign.

While accepting the award, BeyoncĆ© urged listeners to continue pushing for change and encouraged her fans to get out and vote. ā€œWe have one more thing we need to do to walk in our true power and that is to vote,ā€ she said at the ceremony. ā€œIā€™m encouraging you to continue to take action, continue to change and dismantle a racist and unequal system. We have to continue to do this together, continue to fight for each other, and lift each other up because there are people banking on us staying at home during local elections in primaries happening in states across the country.ā€
