Calvin "Snoop Dogg" Broadus has partnered with the Democratic National Committee to encourage voters to utilize ballot drop boxes. The lead ad for the DNC's newest campaign features the west coast legend's 2004 hit, "Drop It Like It's Hot." Throughout the 60-second spot, voters exercise their right to vote by dropping their ballot off at their local ballot box location. The newly released ad will be prominently featured on sites like Hulu, YouTube, Twitter, Facebook and Instagram in battleground states like Florida, Arizona and Michigan.
"This is the most important election of our lifetimes and it's my first time voting. We need every single American to get out there and vote,” Snoop Dogg said.
“It's time for ya’ll to drop those ballots like they're hot — in your local drop box. Vote early and let ‘em know our voices will be heard!"
"So now the Democrats are using Mail Drop Boxes, which are a voter security disaster. Among other things, they make it possible for a person to vote multiple times. Also, who controls them, are they placed in Republican or Democrat areas? They are not Covid sanitized. A big fraud," Trump tweeted in August.
Since then, members of the GOP have tried to limit the number of ballot box locations in key states like California and Pennsylvania. Most recently, officials in Texas moved to limit drop-off ballot locations to one per county. As a result, large areas like Harris County must merge their 12 locations into one before election day.
"As we work to preserve Texans' ability to vote during the COVID-19 pandemic, we must take extra care to strengthen ballot security protocols throughout the state. These enhanced security protocols will ensure greater transparency and will help stop attempts at illegal voting," Texas Governor Greg Abbott said.
"It is a shameful, blatant act of voter suppression that will disproportionately impact the large number of Black and Latinx voters in Texas' biggest counties," Texas State Democratic Party Chair Gilbert Hinojosa replied.
As the election nears, the issue of ballot box locations will become a hotter and hotter topic.
