San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey is reportedly "good to go" for Sunday's (September 7) Week 1 game against the Seattle Seahawks despite a leg calf pull that limited him in practice last week, a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed to ESPN's Adam Schefter prior to kickoff.
"49ers RB Christian McCaffrey, who was added to the injury report Thursday with a calf issue, will play today vs. the Seahawks. 'He’s good to go,' said one source," Schefter wrote on his X account Sunday morning.
McCaffrey had previously dealt with a pedal Achilles strain that was reported to be game-time decision ahead of his Week 1 game during the 2024 season, which eventually led to him missing his first eight games before later suffering a knee PCL strain that caused him to miss his final five games, having been limited to just four total appearances.
"Unfortunately, when you have the injury history that I have, sometimes when you don't practice, things get blown out of proportion," McCaffrey said via ESPN. "But like I said, I feel great."
McCaffrey had a career season in 2023 in which he recorded an NFL-best 1,459 yards and 14 touchdowns on 272 rushing attempts, as well as 57 receptions for 565 yards and seven touchdowns, winning the NFL Offensive Player of the Year Award. The former Stanford University standout signed a a two-year extension in 2024 that, at the time, made him the highest-paid player at his position.
