Former WWE superstar John Cena announced he host WrestleMania 42 next month, marking his first appearance for the company since his retirement in December.
“Ah, retired life in the sun. I’m kidding! Check out the backdrop. I’m shooting a movie for Netflix called One Attempt Remaining,’ which you can see when it comes out. I’m also on the road which is ironic cause there’s a road to WrestleMania going on. And, Hollywood is really close to Vegas. Rumor around this town is WrestleMania needs a host. Well, I’m already on that road so I will see you at WrestleMania," Cena said in a video shared on his X account Monday (March 30).
Cena, 48, tapped out to Gunther in his final WWE match against on the December 13 live broadcast of Saturday Night's Main Event, which was the conclusion of a previously announced retirement tour, after 24 years wrestling for the company. The Massachusetts native set the pro wrestling industry record for most world championship reigns with his WWE Championship win against Cody Rhodes -- who defeated him for the title at SummerSlam less than four months later -- during the Night Two main event of WrestleMania 41 last April.
Cena served as WWE's franchise player throughout the majority of his tenure with the company, moving to a limited part-time schedule during the latter part of his in-ring career, which coincided with his emergence as a Hollywood superstar. One Attempt Remaining will co-star actress Jennifer Garner and feature comedic actress Kate McKinnon and actress Aimee Carrero.
