Lil Durk is focused on working on himself and saving the next generation as he sits behind bars awaiting his upcoming trial.

On Tuesday, March 31, the Chicago native spoke out about his mental state in a rare post he uploaded to Instagram. In the audio clip, Durk begins by sharing that he's been working on his patience and reading books by "revolutionary" activists Fred Hampton, Elaine Brown, and Huey P. Newton. Later, he admits that he's sick of being a "pawn of the culture" and wants to shift his attention to being a better role model to his younger fans.

"It’s just been sitting on my heart lately to save the generation, bro," he says. "Save these kids. I’m just tired of being a pawn for the culture. Entertaining and being ignorant."

Lil Durk has been locked up since he was arrested in October 2024 for his alleged role in a murder-for-hire scheme. He's accused of enlisting five men to carry out a shooting aimed at Quando Rondo. Instead, the alleged shooters missed and fatally shot Rondo's cousin, Lul Pab. Lil Durk was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Miami and has remained in federal custody ever since. The rapper's legal team faced numerous setbacks over the past year, but a judge finally scheduled Durk's trial date for August 20.
