Rick Ross fired some shots at Drake by purposely omitting his former collaborator's vocals from one of their beloved hits during his 'Verzuz' battle with French Montana.
Rozay and French faced one another in a rare 'Verzuz' battle on Thursday night, May 7, in Los Angeles. During the song-for-song melee, Ross tried to maintain his lead by performing his banger "Aston Martin Music" after French dropped his verse from Fat Joe's "All The Way Up." Before the song began, Ross explicitly asked for the DJ to play "Aston Martin Music" without Drake's vocals on it.
“I wanna do ‘Aston Martin Music,’ minus Drake’s vocals," Ross said. "No Drake vocals... If you wanna sing that, I'ma let you sing that."
This is the second time Ross has encouraged the crowd to sing "lil man's" verse. He previously performed "Aston Martin Music" at a show and let the fans take over Drake's part. Drizzy himself caught a clip of the performance and laughed about it. We're not so sure how he'll react to Ross' latest performance.
Rick Ross and Drake have teamed up on various hits, including "Gold Roses," “Money in the Grave," "Stay Schemin'," "Diced Pineapples" and more. Their partnership fell apart in 2024 after the Canadian rapper took a swipe at Rozay on "Push Ups" during his rap battle with Kendrick Lamar. Ross responded by dissing Drake on songs like "Champagne Moments" and fueled the beef by calling him "Cupcake Drake" and "BBL Drizzy" on social media. The two have yet to squash their beef, and it doesn't look like it'll happen any time soon.
Ross and French continued to trade hits back and forth throughout the battle. After throwing out hit after hit, the two joined forces in the end to perform their biggest hits, "Stay Schemin'" and "Pop That." They also performed their most recent collaboration, "Minks In Miami," and their brand-new song "Smoking, Pt. 2." Fans were divided on the winner, but French Montana ultimately claimed victory due to the overwhelming excitement for "Unforgettable" over Ross' "Devil In A New Dress."
French Montana shared his new song, "Smoking, Pt. 2" with Max B and Rozay shortly after the battle ended. The song will appear on French and Max's upcoming album Wave Gods 2: Cosmos Brothers, which drops May 22. The song comes a few weeks after Ross dropped their previous collaboration "Minks In Miami." Ross' track will appear on his upcoming album Set In Stone, dropping June 12.
