Beyoncé Knowles-Carter recently shared a behind-the-scenes look at her husband Jay-Z's hair transformation, revealing details about his new hairstyle. In a video posted on June 21 by Beyoncé's haircare brand, Cécred, fans got a glimpse of Jay-Z's journey from his signature wick dreadlocks to an afro.
The transformation was no small feat.
According to Yahoo Entertainment, loctician Houston Locs spent four days combing out Jay-Z's dreadlocks, using four bottles of Cécred products. After the lengthy process, hairstylist Letisia Ravelo styled Jay-Z's new afro. Ravelo shared a photo of the final look on her Instagram, expressing her excitement about the change.
Jay-Z debuted his new look during his performance at the 2026 Roots Picnic in Philadelphia on Saturday (May 30). His appearance, along with a scathing freestyle that seemingly targeted several artists, became a major talking point of the festival. The freestyle drew responses from notable figures like Charlamagne Tha God and LeBron James.
Looking ahead, Jay-Z is set to perform three historic shows at Yankees Stadium in New York City on July 10, 11, and 12. These performances will celebrate the anniversaries of his albums Reasonable Doubt and The Blueprint, with an additional show added due to high demand.
