In a recent interview on the "All The Smoke" podcast, former President Barack Obama addressed President Donald Trump's frequent mentions of him, describing it as an "obsession." Obama remarked that this focus on him indicates Trump is "not focused on the American people."

During the episode, released on Wednesday (June 24), Obama said, "I obviously have a room in his head. A suite in his head." He emphasized that when he was president, he concentrated on the tasks at hand rather than worrying about his predecessor.

Trump has a history of criticizing Obama, including promoting the false "birther" conspiracy theory and attacking the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, a nuclear deal with Iran that Obama negotiated. Recently, Trump drew criticism for sharing an AI-generated video on his Truth Social account depicting the Obamas in a derogatory manner. The video was later removed, and Trump did not apologize.

Obama's comments highlight a long-standing rivalry between the two leaders, which has shaped political discourse in the U.S. According to Newsweek, Trump's attacks on Obama have intensified since returning to the White House, often using Obama as a political foil. This pattern of behavior has been a consistent theme in Trump's political strategy.

Obama's remarks on the podcast underscore his view that leaders should focus on their responsibilities rather than fixating on their predecessors. He stated, "The idea that I'd be worrying about somebody who came before and me trying to measure, 'What's he done today?' constantly worrying about that is a strange thing to me."
