Democrats have won control of the House of Representatives, a shift projected by NBC News and other outlets as vote tallies showed the party surpassing the 218 seats needed for a majority. According to the NBC News Decision Desk, Democrats are estimated to end up with a 53-seat majority, flipping the chamber from Republican control after needing a net gain of just three seats.

All 435 House seats were up for election Tuesday, with Democrats capitalizing on voter frustration over the country's direction and President Donald Trump’s policies. The victory is seen as a referendum on President Trump’s second-term record, including his handling of immigration, the Iran conflict, and tariffs that have contributed to higher prices for everyday goods.

Exit polling cited by Forbes found that about 60% of voters nationally disapprove of President Trump’s job performance, and nearly 75% expressed dissatisfaction with the country’s direction. Economic concerns, especially inflation and the cost of living, played a significant role in voter decisions—around 90% of voters said these issues were crucial or major factors in their choices.

Democratic gains swept through districts previously held by Republicans, including noteworthy wins in New Jersey and Kentucky, as Democrats picked up seats in historically red areas, signaling broad discontent with the status quo.

The Senate balance remains undecided, with results still being counted in key battleground states. Several close races could determine control of the chamber, but as of now, the House victory gives Democrats the power to check President Trump’s agenda.

With their new majority, Democrats are expected to pursue investigations into President Trump’s administration and business dealings, though, according to Forbes, there is little current appetite among party leaders to attempt another impeachment process.
