Lil Durk has been thrown into solitary confinement as he awaits his bond hearing ahead of his second trial.
According to a report TMZ published on Monday, November 2, the Chicago rapper, born Durk Banks, was placed in the Special Housing Unit at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Los Angeles. Bureau of Prisons' union secretary, Jose Rojas, told the outlet that the 34-year-old artist was sent to the SHU on Friday.
"For privacy, safety, and security reasons we do not discuss the conditions of confinement for any individual in our custody, including housing assignments, potential disciplinary infractions, or internal security measures," the BOP said in a statement.
Sources told TMZ that Durk was reportedly punished last week after an alleged exchange with a deputy warden about the ongoing raids in his unit. His cell has been "constantly searched" for contraband since he was acquitted of all charges in his murder-for-hire case, but prison staff have yet to find anything suspicious. Durk asked the deputy warden about the searches and was sent to the SHU for "talking back."
It's not clear how long Lil Durk will remain in solitary confinement. He's currently focused on his upcoming bond hearing. His legal team, including attorneys Brian Steel and Drew Findling, recently submitted a massive bail package that includes royalties and earnings from his music, homes, and more. JAY-Z and J. Cole wrote letters to the judge on his behalf, as well as the mother of the victim, Saviay’a "Lul Pab" Robinson. In her letter, Robinson's mom said she didn't oppose Durk receiving bail.
Durk's trial was supposed to happen this month, but it was recently rescheduled for August 30, 2027.
