Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has confirmed she is officially running for governor of Georgia. In an interview with 11Alive News, she said a formal announcement will come soon. Friday morning she had shared a statement saying she was seriously considering a run. By the evening, she made it clear she was in.
Bottoms referenced Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. in her statement, saying there is a “fierce urgency of now” and Georgia needs leaders who are focused on real issues, not blindly following political trends. She emphasized her commitment to putting people and communities first.
Bottoms served as mayor of Atlanta from 2018 to 2022. After leaving office, she joined the Biden administration as a senior advisor and later served on the President’s Export Council.
Although she has not yet shared details about her campaign platform, she said she is praying, talking to family, and considering her next steps carefully.
