Mo'Nique explained that letting it go would mean giving in to the same conditioning that tells Black people to stay silent in the face of injustice. She said this mindset stems from slavery and that she is speaking out to change that narrative.
The livestream took a sharp turn when she referenced Tyler Perry in a seemingly shady way, saying, “I love my brother and sister or my sister and sister. Whatever day Tyler chooses.” The internet immediately picked up on what many saw as a jab at Perry’s sexuality.
