Bishop Marvin Winans of Perfecting Church in Detroit held a “Day of Giving” event this past Sunday, encouraging members to donate $1,000 and raise an additional $1,000 to help complete the church’s new sanctuary and support local programs.
However, backlash quickly followed when a viral video claimed Winans rebuked a congregation member who gave $1,200 instead of the full $2,000. The pastor and the member in question spoke to ABC 7 Detroit in hopes of clearing up the misunderstanding. Winans says his words were taken out of context and that he appreciates every act of generosity, no matter the amount.
The church remains focused on its goal to finish construction and continue serving the community.
