Minnesota Honors Jesse Jackson With Flags at Half Staff

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz has ordered all state flags to fly at half staff in honor of Reverend Jesse Jackson. The order began at sunrise yesterday and will continue until sunset tonight.

Reverend Jackson passed away at the age of 84. He was a longtime civil rights leader who worked alongside Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and spent decades fighting for equality, fairness, and dignity. Jackson founded the Rainbow PUSH Coalition and ran for president in the 1980s, becoming one of the first Black candidates to gain national attention.

Governor Walz said Reverend Jackson spent his life pushing America to live up to its highest ideals. He praised Jackson’s fight for civil rights and said his legacy will continue to inspire future generations.

Flags at half staff are a symbol of mourning and respect. The gesture shows the state’s recognition of Jackson’s impact on the nation. Many leaders across the country have also shared tributes, highlighting his dedication to justice and opportunity.

Jackson’s work helped open doors for many people in politics and public service. His passing marks the end of an important chapter in American civil rights history.

Minnesotans are encouraged to reflect on his contributions and the progress he worked so hard to achieve.
