Spring Break may look a little different for college students this year. Several popular party destinations are putting strict rules in place to control crowds and reduce chaos.
Cancun, Mexico has long been one of the most popular travel spots for students during Spring Break. However, some cities in Mexico are not welcoming the large party crowds this year, leaving travelers to reconsider their plans.
Meanwhile, Miami Beach has taken a very strong stance. Miami Beach Police Chief Wayne Jones recently announced that the city has officially “divorced Spring Break.” Officials say they will not return to the wild party environment that has caused problems in past years.
Panama City Beach, another popular location for college students, is also tightening its rules. Beaches will now be cleared between 10:00 PM and 4:00 AM in an effort to better manage crowds and reduce overnight parties.
In addition, alcohol will not be allowed on the beach throughout the entire month of March.
City leaders say these changes are meant to protect residents, businesses, and visitors while keeping the area safe.
Students planning Spring Break trips may now need to rethink where they go and how they celebrate.
