Ye Faces Backlash Over Lyrics on New Album “Bully”

Ye is back in the headlines following the release of his new album Bully, which dropped last Friday.

The project is already getting mixed reviews, but one lyric in particular has sparked major backlash online. In his song “King,” Ye references his interracial marriage to Bianca Censori and connects it to civil rights history. The lyric says, “I brought a white queen to the altar / Couldn’t happen without Martin Luther.”

Many listeners took issue with the comparison, saying it was inappropriate to link his personal relationship to the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr..

Historically, interracial marriage was legalized in 1967 through the Loving v. Virginia Supreme Court decision, during the same era Dr. King was fighting for civil rights and equality. However, critics argue that Ye’s lyric oversimplifies and misuses that history.

Social media quickly reacted, with some calling the line disrespectful, while others defended Ye’s artistic expression.

This is not the first time Ye has sparked controversy through his music or public statements. His work often pushes boundaries, but it also continues to divide audiences.

As conversations continue, fans are once again debating where to draw the line between creative freedom and cultural sensitivity.
