J.I.D is paying homage to his late father after he recently passed away.

On Wednesday, May 6, the Atlanta rapper posted a throwback photo of his dad from a more joyous time in his life, along with a video from his funeral. In the soundless clip, you can see a pair of Marines folding an American flag and presenting it to J.I.D's mother as he sat nearby. J.I.D said he originally didn't want to post anything about his dad but he ultimately decided to because "he deserves to be honored."

"My family is extremely heart broken and I aint even wana post this but he deserves to be honored," he wrote.

"The most brilliant man I have ever known," he added. "The world is so much colder with out you here but I’m not discouraged, I remember every single world u have ever said to me and I will execute!"

J.I.D was born to his parents, Carl Louis Route Jr. and Kathy Jean Route, in 1989. The death of his father happened nearly a year after he became a dad himself. The Atlanta native announced that he's a father in the closing song of his recent album God Does Like Ugly. At the very end of the track "For Keeps," J.I.D reveals he recently welcomed his first child.

"Having a child will change your whole mechanism," he explained to Complex last year. "I'm just, like, in this space growing with a little broke homie. Just trying to figure out this process together and learning and just seeing love bro."

Our condolences go out to J.I.D. and his family.
