Family, friends, and supporters gathered Monday in Ocean Springs, Mississippi, to celebrate the life of 18-year-old Nolan Wells, whose death continues to be the focus of an ongoing investigation.
The funeral service was held at Center Pointe Church and featured remarks from Al Sharpton, who officiated the service, and civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump, who delivered a call for justice on behalf of the Wells family.
Filmmaker Tyler Perry covered the funeral expenses, while former NFL quarterback Colin Kaepernick paid for an independent autopsy.
Following the service, Nolan's mother, Christine Wonsley, revealed that her family has received anonymous hate mail, sharing a message on social media condemning those responsible.
The investigation remains active, with both the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and the FBI continuing to examine the circumstances surrounding Wells' death.
