Cardi B is bringing her signature confidence to Old Navy.
The rapper is the face of the retailer’s new fall “Most Wanted Denim” campaign, but she admits she was not always confident about how she looked in jeans.
Cardi told PEOPLE that when she was in high school, she would layer multiple pairs of tights underneath her jeans to make her thighs and backside appear fuller.
“I would put three tights under my jeans so my butt and my thighs could be thicker,” she recalled.
These days, Cardi says she has a much different relationship with denim and appreciates having different styles available for different body types. Old Navy’s campaign features several fits, including wide-leg, barrel and baggy denim styles.
Cardi also described her personal style as a mix of sexy and comfortable. She likes pairing fitted tops with more relaxed jeans, creating a look that gives her glamour on top while keeping things casual on the bottom.
Her comments also highlight how body confidence can change over time. The same girl who once worried about looking too flat in her jeans is now starring in a national denim campaign celebrating her curves.
