Woman Refuses to Return Ex’s $8,400 After Accidental Transfer

A viral Reddit relationship story has people debating whether an ex-girlfriend did the right thing after her former boyfriend accidentally transferred $8,400 into her account.

According to the woman’s post in Reddit’s “Am I Overreacting” community, her ex-boyfriend mistakenly selected her account while trying to send money for a condo he was purchasing with his new girlfriend. He immediately contacted her and demanded that she send the money back because he was facing a closing deadline.

Instead of transferring the money herself, the woman contacted her bank. She said the bank instructed her not to move or spend the money while it investigated the electronic transfer. Three days later, the bank reversed the transaction and returned the $8,400.

By then, however, the woman claimed her ex had missed his closing date and lost the condo, along with thousands of dollars in deposits and fees. Her sister and some friends believed she should have ignored the bank’s advice and sent the money back immediately.

Many Reddit commenters sided with the woman, arguing that personally sending the money back could have created another financial problem if the original transaction was later reversed by the bank. Others questioned whether the entire viral story was authentic.

Either way, the story has created a major debate: If your ex accidentally sent you $8,400, would you immediately send it back or let the banks handle it?
