Colin Kaepernick is marking 10 years since the beginning of his national anthem protest by once again putting money directly into underserved communities.
Kaepernick and his Know Your Rights Camp have announced a renewed $1 million pledge that will provide grants to community organizations through 2027. The commitment comes a decade after his original million-dollar pledge, which supported more than 30 organizations across at least 15 cities.
The first $100,000 has already been divided between four nonprofits receiving $25,000 each: 100 SUITS in New York City, Eternal Seeds in New Orleans, The Hidden Genius Project in Oakland and the Lower Eastside Girls Club in New York City.
Know Your Rights Camp says it has distributed more than $2.69 million in cash grants over the years while also supporting youth programs, legal assistance, education, health initiatives and other community needs.
Kaepernick has also supported families seeking answers after unexpected deaths. His organization confirmed that he paid for the independent autopsy of 18-year-old Nolan Wells in July.
Kaepernick has remained active in community work for years, even when those efforts receive less attention than the controversy surrounding his protests.
