Keith Lee is once again using his platform to help a community in need.
The popular food critic donated $15,000 toward storm relief efforts in Gary, Indiana, after severe weather left families dealing with damaged homes, flooding and prolonged power outages.
Lee partnered with the Salvation Army, the City of Gary and other organizations for a community relief event that provided residents with food, cleaning supplies, household necessities and storm recovery kits.
Indiana Pacers star Tyrese Haliburton heard about Lee’s efforts and decided to match his $15,000 contribution, bringing their combined donation to $30,000.
“As much as I can, I want to be involved in the community,” Haliburton said while discussing why he wanted to contribute.
Thousands of residents attended the August 24 relief event at Roosevelt Pavilion as Gary continued recovering from the August 11 storms.
Lee acknowledged that his donation could not restore electricity to people’s homes, but he wanted to provide some immediate relief while also using his platform to bring more attention to what Gary residents were experiencing.
