Four years after the infamous Oscars slap, Chris Rock is looking at the incident from a different perspective.
During a recent interview with Variety ahead of the Toronto International Film Festival premiere of his new movie Misty Green, the 61-year-old comedian said he wishes the 2022 incident with Will Smith had never happened.
Instead of dwelling on it, Rock pointed out that there are much bigger problems happening around the world, including homelessness and poverty. He said that compared to what many people face every day, him having one bad day is simply not that important.
Rock also addressed whether he would ever return to the Academy Awards. He said the only way he currently sees himself going back is if he is nominated for an Oscar.
But Chris did have one Hollywood request.
The comedian joked that it is time for another Madagascar movie. Rock famously voiced Marty the zebra in the animated franchise and joked that after his divorce, he no longer has his old “Madagascar money.”
Rock wrote, directed and stars in Misty Green, marking his first time directing a movie in more than a decade.
