Congratulations to our girl Sherri Shepherd because she is making Broadway history!
The comedian, actress and Emmy-winning television personality will become the first woman to play the Genie in Disney’s Broadway production of Aladdin.
Sherri will begin her limited run at the New Amsterdam Theatre on October 16 and remain in the role through January 3, 2027.
The Genie is one of the musical’s biggest roles, known for high-energy comedy, big musical numbers and the show-stopping performance of “Friend Like Me.”
Sherri called the opportunity a dream come true and said she is excited to bring her own humor, heart, energy and a little magic to the iconic character.
This will not be Sherri’s first time on Broadway. She previously appeared as Madame, the Evil Stepmother, in Rodgers + Hammerstein’s Cinderella.
Now she is returning to the stage and making history in the process.
Congratulations, Sherri!
