We are sending prayers and well wishes to Lionel Richie as he takes some time away from the stage to focus on his health.
The 77-year-old music legend recently underwent a medical procedure to treat atrial fibrillation, commonly known as AFib.
AFib is an irregular heartbeat that can cause symptoms including a racing heart, fatigue, dizziness and shortness of breath.
Richie underwent a minimally invasive procedure known as an ablation. According to his representative, everything went well.
“The doctor said everything went perfectly and Lionel is doing great,” his representative said.
Richie will now take some time to rest and recover before returning to the stage.
As a result, three upcoming dates on his Sing a Song All Night Long tour with Earth, Wind & Fire have been canceled, including scheduled performances in San Francisco, Chicago and Columbus.
The procedure follows several recent health scares for Richie while touring.
In June, he experienced dizziness during a concert in St. Paul, Minnesota. Then in August, he was hospitalized for additional testing after appearing to struggle during a performance in St. Louis.
Despite those setbacks, Richie continued performing whenever doctors cleared him to return.
For now, the priority is rest.
