Freddie Jackson Dies at 70, Leaving a Quiet Storm Legacy

The music world is mourning the loss of legendary R&B singer Freddie Jackson, who died on October 5, just days after celebrating his 70th birthday.

Jackson’s family announced his passing on social media, remembering him as more than an incredible vocalist.

They described Freddie as a “kind, generous soul” who loved his fans, family, friends and music with everything he had.

A cause of death has not been publicly disclosed. Jackson revealed in 2024 that he had been diagnosed with kidney disease and later worked to raise awareness about kidney health.

Freddie Jackson became one of the defining voices of the Quiet Storm era during the 1980s and 1990s. His smooth vocals and romantic ballads made him a favorite on R&B radio and created a soundtrack for generations of love stories.

His unforgettable songs include “Rock Me Tonight (For Old Times Sake),” “You Are My Lady,” “Have You Ever Loved Somebody,” “Jam Tonight” and “Tasty Love.”

His first album, Rock Me Tonight, went platinum and helped establish him as one of the biggest R&B singers of the decade.

Jackson’s family says information about how fans can celebrate his life and legacy will be announced at a later time.

Our condolences go out to Freddie Jackson’s family, friends and all of the fans who loved his music.
