Congratulations are in order for Beyoncé and Kelly Rowland as they continue giving back to their hometown of Houston.
The longtime friends and former Destiny’s Child members celebrated the grand opening of the Knowles-Rowland House, a permanent supportive housing development created to help people experiencing chronic homelessness.
Beyoncé’s daughters, Blue Ivy and Rumi Carter, joined their mother for the special occasion and helped participate in the ribbon-cutting ceremony alongside Kelly Rowland, Tina Knowles and community leaders.
The new facility includes 31 permanent housing units and provides residents with more than just a place to live.
Through partnerships with local organizations, residents will have access to case management, mental health counseling, substance abuse treatment, life-skills training, nutrition assistance and other supportive services designed to help them build stability.
The project also carries decades of history.
The property was previously home to the Knowles-Rowland Center for Youth, which opened in 1999 with support from the Knowles family and Kelly Rowland through their connection to St. John’s Downtown Church.
After the original facility was damaged by a fire in 2021, the location was eventually transformed into the new supportive housing development.
For Beyoncé, the opening was especially meaningful because St. John’s is the Houston church where she grew up and was baptized.
She and Kelly spoke about learning the importance of service and giving back while growing up in the community.
It is always good to see celebrities use their success to create something that could continue helping people long after the cameras are gone.
