Could Soulja Boy be going from “Crank That” to the campaign trail?
The rapper has people talking after posting “SOULJA BOY 2028” on Instagram and teasing the possibility of running for president.
Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, said he is exploring how his experiences in music, business and technology could translate into public service.
He also outlined four areas he says would be priorities for him: economic opportunity, criminal justice reform, education and the future of technology and artificial intelligence.
But before anybody starts printing campaign signs, Soulja has not formally announced his candidacy.
He also has not said whether he would seek the nomination of a political party or run as an independent.
At this point, he appears to be testing the waters and starting a conversation about a possible 2028 campaign.
Soulja Boy would meet the Constitution’s minimum age requirement to become president by the 2028 election. The Constitution requires a president to be at least 35 years old, a natural-born U.S. citizen and a U.S. resident for at least 14 years.
Of course, celebrity presidential campaigns are nothing new. Kanye West ran for president in 2020, while entertainers including Ronald Reagan have successfully made the jump from entertainment into elected office.
For now, though, Soulja Boy 2028 remains a social media tease rather than an official presidential campaign.
Would you take a Soulja Boy presidential campaign seriously?
