Trump Says He’ll Work With Democrats if GOP Loses Congress

President Donald Trump says he would find a way to work with Democrats if Republicans lose control of part of Congress in next week’s midterm elections.

While traveling to Texas to campaign for Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton, Trump was asked how he would govern if Democrats took control of the House or Senate.

“We’ll figure a way,” Trump responded.

The president pointed to his veto power and said divided government has happened under many previous presidents.

“You have strong veto and you end up working out deals,” Trump said.

When a reporter asked whether he would respect the election results regardless of the outcome, Trump responded that he would “if they’re honest elections.”

Trump later campaigned in Corpus Christi and Lubbock as Republicans work to maintain control of Congress.

Polling in several closely watched Senate races remains competitive with Election Day approaching.

A recent Forbes roundup showed Democratic candidates leading in individual polls in states including Michigan, North Carolina, Georgia, Ohio and Texas.

However, the same roundup showed Republican Sen. Ashley Moody leading Democrat Angie Nixon in the latest Florida Senate poll, so it would not be accurate to say Democrats currently lead in all six of those states.

Polls represent snapshots of voter opinion and can change before votes are counted.

Election Day is Tuesday, November 3, with all 435 House seats and 35 Senate seats on the ballot.
