Chris Rock is getting candid about some of the personal struggles that contributed to the end of his marriage.
In a new interview with GQ, the 61-year-old comedian reflected on his divorce and admitted that he was not the husband he wanted to be.
“I was not a great husband,” Rock said.
He openly discussed his past struggles with adult content and infidelity, issues he has previously addressed in his stand-up comedy.
Rock says he has now gone five or six years without viewing that type of explicit material.
He also talked about reaching a point where his personal life no longer looked the way he wanted it to, which pushed him to seek therapy.
Rock described entering therapy during an extremely emotional period in his life and said it remains an ongoing part of his personal growth.
The comedian also discussed being diagnosed with a nonverbal learning disorder, or NVLD.
Rock says the condition affects his ability to recognize certain nonverbal social cues.
“I’m not one for a hint,” he explained, saying people sometimes have to tell him exactly what they mean.
Receiving the diagnosis helped him better understand some of the communication and relationship challenges he had experienced throughout his life.
Rock is one of GQ’s 2026 Men of the Year honorees alongside Matt Damon and Andrew Garfield.
His openness is also creating another conversation about men being willing to seek professional help when they realize something in their lives needs to change.
